The first public library of Suceava city was inaugurated on December 12, 1923. The initial publication fund was about 2,000 volumes, to which were added "the best Romanian magazines and periodicals". However, during the interwar period, the public library of Suceava received numerous donations from a number of Bukovinian intellectuals, reaching in 1944 to have over 15,000 volumes (books, serials and periodicals). In the spring of 1944 the city was evacuated, and the library housed in the imposing building of the National House.
Between 1944-1950 the library did not work and the book fund was ideologically "purified", destroyed and stolen. The library was re-established in 1950, Since 1993 he has been entitled the Library of Bucovina "I.G.Sbiera". Over time, the library operated in several places. Currently, the space in which the county library operates consists of 55 rooms (offices, warehouses, reading rooms, workshops).
